Laser treatments are becoming increasingly popular solutions to clear acne scars. Laser treatments are a relatively new solution to clearing acne scars. It has been used for purposes beyond just treating acne scars such as removing wrinkles, smoothening rough skin, evening your skin pigmentation among others.
Advantages of Laser Treatments
1. The first advantage of laser treatments is that they are precise. Only affected areas are treated and surrounding regions are left unaffected.
2. There is little or no bleeding during the treatment.
3. The treatment poses the least post-operative discomfort than other procedures.
Risk involved in Laser treatments
Just like any other treatment, laser treatments come with associated risks. Some of them are discussed below.
1. Lightening or darkening of the treated skin may occur. Patients with olive skin, brown skin or black skin may be at increased risk for pigmentation changes.
2. The heat produced by the laser pose a risk of scarring or burns.
3. Although very rare, there is a risk of "cold-sore" and other types of infections due to its invasive nature.
After the surgery
1. Following the treatment expect to feel some irritation and swelling in the treated area.
2. The swelled skin may ooze for the first couple of weeks.
3. The skin will give a reddish appearance.
4. Scabs will be formed as a result of the treatment.
Laser treatments can be quite expensive running into a few thousand dollars for a single treatment. Like most other treatments the results take a few months to show. Making a well informed decision on your treatment is important considering the amount of money you will be spending in the process.
